Supernatural candidate

Today I was listening to some news program, and the anchor trying to describe the great efforts of the underdog canditate, said that he was doing supernatural stuff, rather than superhuman.  I mean, what the fuck?  Is he a ghost or something?  Why can't this journalist use plain language instead of trying to appear better educated than she really is?
