Taking advantage of people's ignorance

I can't believe this article:

In short, it's saying that a rather tranquil town has become a "boom town" thanks to the production and sales of some lucky charms.  Unbelievable and outrageous that these goodies would be coming from Buddhist temples.  I'm not Buddhist, but I thought the teachings of Buddha go against these superstitions.  How come the temple guys are taking advantage of this?  I'm almost certain that Buddhism teaches to be detached of material things, and yet this...
