Ummm, after so many days at last I get the chance to again contribute to the wealth of knowledge available to humankind through the magic of Internet...
What happened is that finally I got my laptop computer and was busy taming it! It came with Windows XP and some other programs in the local language, so first I took some time consulting the guys who sold me the computer brand new (IBM themselves) on how could I change the language into English; meaning of course, either have the computer changed altogether or have somebody in IBM reinstall Windows.
When the girl came back to me with the answer the next day, I was stunned. Obviously, she's just a salesperson, so she'd consulted "the software guys", and they'd told her to explain to me about the Control Panel's Regional Settings. I'd already tried that myself without having to consult the experts, and it only changed the format in which dates and currencies are displayed.
So there was one wasted day. Next, I decided to install Windows by myself. And after that was done, I had to install all the device drivers and other goodies that my ThinkPad had originally brought with it. After that, I'd been taking my time to install other software, and that's why I didn't add anything to my blog.
Now I'm downloading the Windows patches, and haven't finished updating the Norton Antivirus files yet either. That makes me a bit nervous when I'm connected to the Internet. But what can I do, if all I have in this office is a freaking telephone line? On good days, it gives me about 31kbps, but yesterday it insisted on the fantastic speed of 19.2kbps. With that speed (and the often times dropped telephone connection), how am I supposed to download over 35 Megas worth of patches?
