Wireless madness

Mother fucker, why does setting up a wifi network have to be so damn difficult?  Last week I bought a wireless access point, "Level One" brand.  It was brand new and the box was unsealed right in front of my eyes, so there shouldn't be any problem.

A few hours later, when I took it to my friend's office to install, I figured it would be up and running within 10 minutes, as I've done this before many times before, even with this same brand and model.  But what the fuck... when I went to the office and started to configure it just wouldn't log on, even though they had had another modem (not wireless) working before.

What was the problem?  The guy have me a wrong combination of user id and password... not once, but three consecutive times before giving me the correct one!!!

But after we finally connected, and this took about two hours, the connection would come and go, come and go.  Nobody can get anything done like that.  We thought that perhaps the telephone wiring in the building was not very good.  Yeah, this building is more than 20 years old, so it wouldn't be amazing that the wirings were not originally made to carry ADSL.  And what the fuck, this was another struggle that carried over the weekend.

One of my friends did the wiring again by himself, and he left it right, the connection didn't drop one whole morning.  But since he wanted "a professional" to give his blessing to the wiring, he brought some idiot, who left the wiring in such a state that the Internet connection was dropping every few seconds again.

What the hell?  Well, this is almost surreal.  We knocked on so many doors, but of course, since the dealer and the other guys already had our money, they didn't care much.

Until... some merciful soul decided to send us the latest firmware of the device.  What he sent to us was newer even than the firmware available for download from the manufacturer's website.  I was unconvinced, since even without firmware update the thingy had been working fine one whole morning...

But wowowow!  What a difference... now with the latest and greatest firmware, the connection hasn't dropped for several hours now!

Anyway, I think that the treatment we got from the technicians and the dealers was despicable.  I wouldn't buy from them again.
